Coincidentally in an all black ensemble for today’s post wearing a pair of velvet boots I’d been eyeing at Nordstrom since they arrived several months ago – my statement velvet pick for the velvet-crazed season! I love embracing all the textures of the holiday season: jacquard, metallic knits (like this sweater dress), warm cashmere, suede and fuzzy knits. But this year, especially: velvet. Here are some of my favorites for taking the trend of the season and making it wearable:

  • the holiday dress. Bold, elegant and definitely festive! I love this midi length dress (and soft pink velvet!), or this edgy mini dress (the sleeves balance out the shorter skirt). Plus they’re both under $120.
  • happy feet. The easiest way to bring just a little bit of velvet into your look. This high heel sandal is perfectly proportioned in blush velvet (also under $120), and these pumps are just gorgeous (who could resist a pair of Louboutins?)
  • work to weekend. There are so many choices for a velvet blazer right now for every body type. I have a short torso so I like ones that fall at the hip (like this one), but I’m also crazy about a print on velvet (like this one), or a jewel-toned one (like this in crimson). For an everyday choice: this one and this one are both under $150.

Have you brought velvet into your closet? How are you wearing it?
