Derby

Getting Derby ready in my Kentucky Derby outfit. All you need is a pop of color (or in my case a pop of print), an a-line frock (or separates like I’m wearing here), a fascinator or hat (love this one I found online!), and some viewing beverages (this is my own special version of a Mint Julep – see below for the recipe!).

I always love catching the action on Kentucky Derby day (albeit from my couch or at a party, and not actually in Kentucky!). I’m fascinated by it all, especially having lived just a few miles from the Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego and seeing all of the festivities surrounding the event every year.

There is one thing I don’t particularly like to participate in, and that’s bourbon. But that’s just my personal preference; you may remember my favorite spirit is vodka.

So in advance of tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby Party, I’m sharing my (very easy) twist on the classic Derby drink, the Mint Julep. Excited to hear what you think if you give it a try! And don’t forget to tune in to Saturday’s live coverage of the Kentucky Derby on NBC Sports!

Ingredients
2 ounces Vodka
1 scant ounce Sweetened Lime juice
Sprig of mint

Preparation
To glass, add sweetened lime juice and vodka. Stir and top with ice. Can also be shaken if preferred! Garnish with a mint sprig.

Cheers!
